Dr. Cedric Tan
Dr Cedric Tan did his D.Phil and first post-doctoral position at the University Oxford, studying the exciting sex lives of the red junglefowl and the fruitfly. His passion for the arts drives his constant pursuit of novel and fun ways of integrating science and arts both to teach and to disseminate research work to children and other non-scientists. Cedric is now doing a postdoc in innovative teaching and outreach in conservation with the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit, University of Oxford. He studies the ecology of clouded leopards in Peninsular Malaysia and uses games, videos, dance and role-play to bring life to classroom learning.
Spicing up the Science and Tantalising Teachings are important in catering to today’s generation of young learners. Through games, roleplays and reality TV shows, we transformed the classroom into acompetitive and fun environment for learning and examined what aspectsof these play-things appeal to undergraduates. We also analysed theeffects of play on learning abilities and behaviour.
